WHAT DOES THE ALTWORK STATION DO?
The Altwork Station redefines how people interact with their computers by allowing the computer screen and keyboard to physically conform to support the user’s body while working long hours on a computer. Unlike standard desk and chair workstations, high-intensity computer users can use the Altwork Station to sit, stand, focus (recline), and collaborate. In simplest terms, it allows you to work any way you want as the computer seamlessly moves with you, instead of forcing you to conform to it.
WHO IS THE ALTWORK STATION DESIGNED FOR?
The Altwork Station is designed for high-intensity computer users, which we define as people who spend at least four hours a day working with their personal computer, focusing on complex tasks for extended periods of time—such as developing software and producing computer automated design work.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE SIGNATURE AND FLEX SERIES?
The Flex Series doesn't have stand-up desk capabilities whereas the Signature Series does.
Some of the adjustments on the Flex Series are manual while on the Signature Series they are controlled electronically from the keypad on the desk.
Flex Series has feet instead of rolling casters with the option of adding casters.
Both Altwork Stations fully recline, have an adjustable desk, backrest, headrest and monitor adjustments.
Here are 2 short videos of both models:
And here is a detailed video that shows the differences.
HOW ERGONOMIC IS IT? HOW DOES IT IMPACT TOO MUCH SITTING OR STANDING?
Most ergonomic experts agree sitting for extended periods is not healthy. Standing desks have mixed data regarding health benefits/liabilities. Most of the studies that have been done are correlative rather than causal, so it is hard to derive definitive prescriptions from them. However, most experts agree that people should change positions and move throughout the day. We believe movement throughout the day is important. While there is no formal ergonomic data we know of regarding the Focus (reclined) position our Altwork patented technology provides, many experts believe a large part of the health benefits from standing come from keeping the torso and legs at greater than 135 degrees apart to allow blood flow vs. the 90 degrees that a traditional chairs require.
CAN IT HOLD MULTIPLE SCREENS?
We designed it to be more about weight than the number of screens. We specify 40 lbs—maximum for standard long-term operation. Up to three monitors can be mounted. Alternatively, you may mount a laptop on the left side of the Altwork station while also mounting two monitors in the upper-lower configuration.
WHAT IS THE WARRANTY?
The Altwork Station comes with a five year limited warranty. The Station is designed and tested to at least 10 normal working years.
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS?
The Station is 34 inches wide, and can be easily moved through most doors. It is five (5) feet long, about the same length as a medium-sized desk and weighs 210 lbs.
DOES IT FIT ALL BODY TYPES?
The Altwork Station works for the vast majority of people.
HEIGHT: Our recommended minimum and maximum height range is 5’3″ to 6’4″.
WEIGHT: The Altwork Station is rated for a 250-pound user. We are working on moving this number higher.
If you fall outside of these height or weight ranges, please email support@altwork.com to schedule a consultation and determine if the Station will work for you. The human body has so many variables. For example, one 6’4″ person may have a longer torso or longer legs than another 6’4″ person, so the adjustments would be different. The Altwork Station is very flexible and almost everyone has enjoyed working in it.
WHERE WILL I PUT MY COFFEE?
Altwork Station works best with a side table for coffee, laptops, desktops, papers, books, and sometimes lunch. The Altwork side table is designed to match the Station.
DOES IT COME WITH A SCREEN?
No. A standard VESA (100×100) mount on the back accommodates various screens. A multiple screen mount can hold up to three monitors provided the combined weight of all monitors does not exceed 40 lbs.
HOW HARD IS IT TO ASSEMBLE?
For the average user, assembly will take around two hours and require two people. In the shop, we are able to assemble in around 25 minutes. We also offer Professional Assembly Service if you'd like someone to assemble it for you.
WON'T THE KEYBOARD AND MOUSE FALL OFF THE DESK?
The desk has a layer of steel under its surface. Magnets on the keyboard and keypad hold them in position on the desk. We provide specialized magnet kits for standard Apple products and a general-purpose kit to accommodate other products. The mouse pad has a ring of steel on its outer edge but no steel in the center. This allows the user to slide the mouse easily when mousing and store the mouse anywhere on the edge of the pad when not in use.
