Love, love, love my Alt station. It took a "moment" to put it together with some bumps along the way but technical support was great. The only suggestion I have is for the backrest to have more padding. I find it a bit hard as I was used to a very well padded leather chair before.
The monitor mount works fine, but my laptop is too thick to fit comfortably under the pegs. the front of the laptop sits about 2 inches off of the mount.
This is beautifully designed and functions as it’s supposed to, unfortunately it doesn’t articulate at all making it just out of arms reach. Having a 16” MacBook Pro with touchbar, I would like to be able to use it without needing to strain in order to reach it. Also be aware of the extra clearance space it will need on the left side of the desk, the original spot I had the chair in was no longer sufficient once I attached the laptop mount.
Thanks for your feedback, Eitan! You're correct - the upper laptop mount was designed to accommodate a laptop as a second monitor but not facilitate keyboard access. In your situation (planning to use touchbar), a side table would likely be a better solution. Please email email@example.com if you'd like to return your upper laptop mount.
It was delivered very quickly. The upper lower mount is big enough to accommodate larger sized monitors, and it feels sturdy. Altwork was nice enough to supply screws with the mount system too!
I purchased the Signature Altwork Station (Nightsky Black) with the laptop mount about a month ago after searching for some time for a monitor mount / chair system that could accommodate a reclined position to aid in both good posture and relief of chronic neck/back pain. This product is exactly what I had been looking for! The work station is extremely sturdy, the craftsmanship is exquisite, and the aesthetics is pleasing. I’ve attached a curved 34” monitor and it feels like being in the cockpit of a spaceship; my teenage kids think it’s pretty cool. The monitor changes position in an ergonomically optimal position throughout the numerous configurations without need for manual adjustments. It is so comfortable especially in the fully reclined position that I have fallen asleep on the chair a few times, but have awoken refreshed without any neck/back issues. Jeff Ward is phenomenal! He was very helpful in answering questions and sending additonal information about the product; handled the purchase order; and always professional and prompt with his replies. The DHL tracking didn’t work initially and then the laptop mount did not arrive with the other components. Jeff promptly tracked down a new tracking number and sent the laptop mount the following business day. He was always courteous and responsive in his interactions. Jeff deserves a raise!! I am fully satisfied with this purchase and the purchasing experience with Jeff Ward was the icing on the cake. THANK YOU!
WHAT DOES THE ALTWORK STATION DO?
The Altwork Station redefines how people interact with their computers by allowing the computer screen and keyboard to physically conform to support the user’s body while working long hours on a computer. Unlike standard desk and chair workstations, high-intensity computer users can use the Altwork Station to sit, stand, focus (recline), and collaborate. In simplest terms, it allows you to work any way you want as the computer seamlessly moves with you, instead of forcing you to conform to it.
WHO IS THE ALTWORK STATION DESIGNED FOR?
The Altwork Station is designed for high-intensity computer users, which we define as people who spend at least four hours a day working with their personal computer, focusing on complex tasks for extended periods of time—such as developing software and producing computer automated design work.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE SIGNATURE AND FLEX SERIES?
The Flex Series doesn't have stand-up desk capabilities whereas the Signature Series does.
Some of the adjustments on the Flex Series are manual while on the Signature Series they are controlled electronically from the keypad on the desk.
Flex Series has feet instead of rolling casters with the option of adding casters.
Both Altwork Stations fully recline, have an adjustable desk, backrest, headrest and monitor adjustments.
Here are 2 short videos of both models:
And here is a detailed video that shows the differences.
HOW ERGONOMIC IS IT? HOW DOES IT IMPACT TOO MUCH SITTING OR STANDING?
Most ergonomic experts agree sitting for extended periods is not healthy. Standing desks have mixed data regarding health benefits/liabilities. Most of the studies that have been done are correlative rather than causal, so it is hard to derive definitive prescriptions from them. However, most experts agree that people should change positions and move throughout the day. We believe movement throughout the day is important. While there is no formal ergonomic data we know of regarding the Focus (reclined) position our Altwork patented technology provides, many experts believe a large part of the health benefits from standing come from keeping the torso and legs at greater than 135 degrees apart to allow blood flow vs. the 90 degrees that a traditional chairs require.
CAN IT HOLD MULTIPLE SCREENS?
We designed it to be more about weight than the number of screens. We specify 40 lbs—maximum for standard long-term operation. Up to three monitors can be mounted. Alternatively, you may mount a laptop on the left side of the Altwork station while also mounting two monitors in the upper-lower configuration.
WHAT IS THE WARRANTY?
The Altwork Station comes with a five year limited warranty. The Station is designed and tested to at least 10 normal working years.
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS?
The Station is 34 inches wide, and can be easily moved through most doors. It is five (5) feet long, about the same length as a medium-sized desk and weighs 210 lbs.
DOES IT FIT ALL BODY TYPES?
The Altwork Station works for the vast majority of people.
HEIGHT: Our recommended minimum and maximum height range is 5’3″ to 6’4″.
WEIGHT: The Altwork Station is rated for a 250-pound user. We are working on moving this number higher.
If you fall outside of these height or weight ranges, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a consultation and determine if the Station will work for you. The human body has so many variables. For example, one 6’4″ person may have a longer torso or longer legs than another 6’4″ person, so the adjustments would be different. The Altwork Station is very flexible and almost everyone has enjoyed working in it.
WHERE WILL I PUT MY COFFEE?
Altwork Station works best with a side table for coffee, laptops, desktops, papers, books, and sometimes lunch. The Altwork side table is designed to match the Station.
DOES IT COME WITH A SCREEN?
No. A standard VESA (100×100) mount on the back accommodates various screens. A multiple screen mount can hold up to three monitors provided the combined weight of all monitors does not exceed 40 lbs.
HOW HARD IS IT TO ASSEMBLE?
For the average user, assembly will take around two hours and require two people. In the shop, we are able to assemble in around 25 minutes. We also offer Professional Assembly Service if you'd like someone to assemble it for you.
WON'T THE KEYBOARD AND MOUSE FALL OFF THE DESK?
The desk has a layer of steel under its surface. Magnets on the keyboard and keypad hold them in position on the desk. We provide specialized magnet kits for standard Apple products and a general-purpose kit to accommodate other products. The mouse pad has a ring of steel on its outer edge but no steel in the center. This allows the user to slide the mouse easily when mousing and store the mouse anywhere on the edge of the pad when not in use.
