Overall – This desk is outstanding, completely worth the investment, and I honestly recommend it to everyone I know who has to work from home! Thank you for making this.
I purchased this desk because 1) After 3 months of working from home, I was having hip, wrist, elbow, and hand pain. my work is moving to work from home more permanently, and I decided that spending $7k up front was less costly than dealing with disabling & worsening health issues possibly for my whole life. 2) I actually like working in the laying-down position, but it's not ergonomic. This desk fixes that.
The Pros: Man I feel like there are too many to name!
Well designed: My fiance and I (both engineers) were SO impressed by the robust and thoughtful design, allowing for so much customization during use. I like to adjust it a lot, and every position i can be in is comfortable, plus adjusting is SO EASY. I especially love the adjustable bottom half (foot pieces?) - usually companies focus on back and neck adjustments, but your thighs and feet are neglected and you have to create your own solution for them. With this machine, the adjustability of my feet/legs REALLY impacts my comfort level (in a good way!). I don't often say this, but A-friggin-plus on the design!
Pain disappeared after 1 week!: Not only did the pain disappear after a week of using it (seriously, ALL of my pain, even the hip pain that had been occurring 6 months before the work from home orders), even when I was using my home laptop in a non-ergo position one night, the pain didn't immediately return.
Desk + mouse set up wide enough: I have a split keyboard because I actually like for my keyboard to be the width of my shoulders...and then have space for the mouse to the right. The desk by itself, is wider than every keyboard tray I've had, which makes it easy to have a very ergonomic keyboard setup. And because of the magnetic nature of the mouse pad / desk, I actually was able to move my mousepad half-off of the desk to give myself even more mouse space! And it works great. So thank you for making the desk wide enough across that people don't have to compromise any ergonomics
Customer Service was Great: After a couple days of use, I encountered a terrifying crunching sound when laying it all the way back. I chatted to Jeff the service guy, and he actually put me in touch w/ the engineer! We facetimed, and he was able to quickly troubleshoot what was happening. We were able to resolve the issue and I haven't had any issues since. The quickness with which Altwork got me a source matter expert for my puzzling but serious issue was phenomenal. So I very much appreciated that support! Additionally, I appreciate being able to chat to someone rather than having to physically call. So thank you for that
Cool factor: This desk is COOL. It's fun to use (I call it my "space desk"), and it's just, cool. When people think of desks, "interesting" and "cool" aren't words that come to mind. But the pneumatics and its ability to go from laying, to sitting, to standing is just, fun. I video chatted the equipment and mechanical engineers I work with and they were impressed. So thank you for making work a little more fun :) Also, my fiance likes to play a PC space game, and doing it in this desk (it's VR) I think will be AWESOME
Information for consideration about changes, additions, modifications:
1) Biggest Gripe – Construction Instructions-those included were out of date/sometimes difficult to follow, and the only instructional video on your website wasn’t complete
a. Request – Have step-by-step video instructions (that go from unboxing to testing the complete assembly) on your websites, by model. The video was by far the most helpful instructional format. Additionally, don’t include written instructions in the box; keep them on your website, and include just a 1-pager in the boxes that reference this online location
2) Move Mousepad magnetic strip from bottom to top.
a. Reason – I found when docking the mouse to the bottom strip, it would would still flop. So I rotated the mousepad 90Degrees clockwise; the magnetic strip is at the top – ergonomically and functionally, I massively prefer this way
3) Issue: Had trouble w/ keyboard magnets. My Kinesis freestyle 2 keyboard is split and has adjustable angled feet, so the surface area for the magnets to stick to wasn’t enough, and all of them came off the 1st time I tried to move the keyboard. I also didn’t want to opt for a less ergo keyboard option
a. Suggestion for users: I found that by using magnetic bars (4" x 1" x 1/8" thick) were easier for this keyboard type – I positioned those and then let my keyboard feet rest above them. The bars acted as little stoppers/shelf, so even when I tilt my desk all the way back, the keyboard stays in place
4) Issue: I like my split keyboard pretty wide, so it actually covers the desk’s adjustment buttons. I don't use the presets much, so moving the preset #s ...
Really great product! Super comfortable and more productive.
First and foremost a little history about me. I've gone through my share of ups and downs. With 4 major back surgeries resulting in a solidly fused lumbar spine, my back issues are huge. Unfortunately, 14 years after my last back surgery, my hips finally gave in. In May and November of 2017, I underwent full hip replacement on both hips. Everything was goingI was so looking forward to being somewhat normal again. It began in March of 2018. Pain issues were creeping in on my left leg. By the middle of April there were days that I couldn't walk on my left leg. After seeing my original surgeon all he said was give it more time. Which I did. By June, I was convinced something was wrong. My wife talked me into getting a second opinion. Within minutes of explaining my situation, this new doctor believed an infection may be present in my left hip. Two tests later, his diagnosis was confirmed. Not only was my left hip infected, my right hip was too. Long story short. Four surgeries later, 11 more months off of work, I finally went back to work. As a design engineer in the mining industry my job consists of being in front of a computer all day long. Unfortunately, sitting upright for more than 30 minutes was extremely painful. I ended up standing most every day all day long. As time moved on I could sit once in a while but still the pain crept in. Working in pain is not something anyone should have to deal with. Keeping your focus and concentration while in pain is not very productive. Being one stubborn man, I wouldn't give up. I wasn't going out on a medical disability. I love what I do. Even after 15 years, I still enjoy going to work every day. My coworkers could see on my face just how much pain I was in all the time, but I was too stubborn to throw in the towel. I actually began to work from home when the pain was too bad. Sitting in a recliner with my legs up enabled me to work pain free. It was one of those days while working from home when I found ALTWORK on line. My initial thoughts when I saw the price tag was; absolutely not! There is no way I'll spend that amount of money on something like this. So I continued my search for something else. But...I kept coming back to Altwork. Long story short, my wife finally told me, Honey, this is what you need buy it.
So I did. With the big guy above as my witness, I couldn't be happier. The Altwork station is everything they said it would be and more. After months of suffering through an eight hour day, I can finally work a complete day without excruciating pain. My Altwork station truly saved my career. With eight more years to retirement, I am confident I can make these last eight years. From one design engineer to another, KUDO's to the design engineers at Altwork. Your Altwork workstation has made a huge impact on my life, but more importantly it will sustain my future. Words are not enough to say thank you.
I purchased the Signature Altwork Station (Nightsky Black) with the laptop mount about a month ago after searching for some time for a monitor mount / chair system that could accommodate a reclined position to aid in both good posture and relief of chronic neck/back pain. This product is exactly what I had been looking for! The work station is extremely sturdy, the craftsmanship is exquisite, and the aesthetics is pleasing. I’ve attached a curved 34” monitor and it feels like being in the cockpit of a spaceship; my teenage kids think it’s pretty cool. The monitor changes position in an ergonomically optimal position throughout the numerous configurations without need for manual adjustments. It is so comfortable especially in the fully reclined position that I have fallen asleep on the chair a few times, but have awoken refreshed without any neck/back issues. Jeff Ward is phenomenal! He was very helpful in answering questions and sending additonal information about the product; handled the purchase order; and always professional and prompt with his replies. The DHL tracking didn’t work initially and then the laptop mount did not arrive with the other components. Jeff promptly tracked down a new tracking number and sent the laptop mount the following business day. He was always courteous and responsive in his interactions. Jeff deserves a raise!! I am fully satisfied with this purchase and the purchasing experience with Jeff Ward was the icing on the cake. THANK YOU!
25 years in a regular chair has taken a toll. This workstation has alleviated all that damage. Working with the staff has been a blessing as well. Highly recommend to anyone who really books hours at the desk...
Love the chair, can focus more for longer periods of time, and my sales rep put up with all of my many questions. Having a library of videos from folks that install the chair would have helped me, I found a youtube video for leveling the desk that helped .
Signature Altwork Station
Customer support was fantastic when I fat-fingered my own address. But I work in telehealth, and the market has exploded, and I haven't had time to go home. I will gladly re-review when I am home long enough to sleep, shower, eat and assemble the unit(s)
I used the dual mount for a few weeks before deciding to buy a ultra wide monitor. It is a very good mount. The Artwork guys were very helpful and responsive when I needed to exchange it for a laptop mount. Which is also very nicely made.
Signature Altwork Station
I love my Altwork Station! It has allowed me to get back to work after a significant spinal fusion and two hip replacements. The quality is fantastic! Love it!
Signature Altwork Station
This review is for my second AltWork station - I bought one for my office last year, and with current C-19 work from home situation, I felt the need to buy one for my home as well. As someone who spends 12-14 hours a day in front of my computer, AltWork allows me to move seamlessly between 4 different working positions (reclining, seated with feet up, seated with feet down and standing), each with my hands, shoulders and head in optimal ergonomic position. While the unit at work has a two monitor setup, Jeff recommended that I consider using a 49 inch double ultra wide monitor (with the heavy duty single monitor arm) and I am delighted to have done that. The Dell 49 inch monitor I bought to go with this station allows me to see three full size screens simultaneously. All in all, I feel grateful and privileged to work this way!

Signature Altwork Station
From Start to Finish the purchasing process for my 2 Altwork stations has been seamless! The Altwork representative I dealt with was helpful and accessible and walked me thru the process with ease! He truly felt like a friend during it all. The station came quickly and I was able to set it up with out any problems. It operates as advertised and is extremely comfortable, work wise it has made my day so much more enjoyable and medically it has allowed me to comfortably work for as long as id like now, with out having to take breaks to stretch or elevate my legs! This chair has renewed my ability to work and be a productive team member! that's why we purchased a second one only 2 weeks later!!
Life saver and productivity booster.
Thank you !!!!
I was facing having to go on Long Term Disability as I could no longer sit in a regular office chair. I now can work my 10 hour shifts in comfort. My monitors are always in the right place no matter the position I am in. Everything is aligned perfectly. I truly LOVE my ALTWORK Station !!!
My wife is a schoolteacher, and spends a lot of time in her off hours grading papers and drafting lesson plans. I bought her the Altwork station so that she could elevate her legs and alter her seating support during those evening hours. We programmed the positions she favors, and she has been sitting in it daily ever since! This has included marathon sessions during the day, as the corona virus quarantine closed her school, and she has had to reach her students on-line. The machine admittedly is expensive, even on sale, but the engineering and quality of construction is top notch. The product support is beyond excellent. Consider it an investment in health and well-being, which was the genesis of the design. It will pay dividends.
The system is amazing and Jeff Ward is more amazing! LOL You guys rock!
I have an usual neck injury that was well accommodated. Product exceeded expectations, was able to increase work time 200%.
I found that it was possible to route the monitor and usb cables through the arm, but the cover was not able to be fully installed. The cover could be changed to allow it to be installed with more than just the power cable and desktop control cable installed. I love being able to work in the fully reclined position. I have a bad back and I have much less pain after a day working on the computer. Thanks.
I am happy with the mount for my monitors! They stay securely in place where I need them
I love it! I wish I had waited it out 4 years ago when I had pre-ordered a desk. I actually felt energized at the end of my first ten hour shift in the chair! I have have low back pain often and working long shifts was aggravating my back and shoulder. This is an investment so I can continue my job for many more years. Great engineering! The chair has a wide variety of easy and fast adjustments to achieve comfort and maintain productivity all day! The chair is so well-made and looks great too! Thank you for creating this!!
I have a painful medical issue that means I need to spend a lot of time lying down, especially after meals. The Altwork workstation has made a huge difference in my life by allowing me to work during times that would otherwise be unproductive.
I originally was looking for a work station, that would allow me to work with my legs elevated, as I suffer from circulation issues in my legs. The Altwork station fulfilled my needs and even if I didn't have this issue, I highly recommend this work station, for a comfortable work environment.
I am so happy for my new workstation. It's the best thing I've done in a long time. It took me around 30 ish´ days to turn my body around to use it. To begin with I got "sore" in all sorts of muscles and didn't sit very well. So I really doubted at first whether I should deliver it back. BUT now, I will never live without this workstation again. I love it!
It is also very important to tell what a great service I received from Jeff (Altwork) throughout the process. I would definitely recommend Altwork and Jeff to everyone else. (I live in Denmark)
All the best
After a couple of decades of computer work my neck and shoulders gives me trouble. This desk did wonders for me by allowing the elbows to rest on the seat back while reclined offloading the muscles.
I'm a radiologist who works an overnight shift 10 hours per day for 7 days straight. My back and neck were really starting to ache despite having a sit/stand desk. This chair and the reclining function were instrumental in reducing the pressure off my back and neck. A noticeable difference right off the bat. I feel refreshed and ready even after a work week of 70 hours glued to looking at radiology studies. We did have to think carefully about the weight restrictions on the monitor. My primary monitor needs to be FDA approved and weights 30 lbs for medical imaging. Jeff at Altworks was helpful in verifying my system would work. The equipment itself is heavy and requires two people to assemble. Be prepared to ask for help and dedicating some time to unboxing, assembly, and cabling layout unique to your system. Definitely worth the effort (and price) as I believe this will help minimize long term consequences of a sedentary job. This chair has changed my outlook on my profession and coupled with an active lifestyle, mindset, eating the right foods, etc, I'm confident this chair has greatly extended my career and health.
One thing the nice glossy photos on the web site don't fully show is how adjustable the DISTANCE between the screen and your eyes; you can get the tweak the distance and angle to your eyes/face from very far away to VERY CLOSE UP, which is handy. I have special glasses (SpecWell 4x Keplerian scope, spectacle mounted), but even using my scopes I still need to have the screen pretty close, and angle matters too.
When I contact AltWork about my special needs, they were VERY accommodating, they answered questions, and they even had me talk to the CEO about getting a special adapter made to adjust the monitor/face distance; it turned out in my cases the screen is WAY more adjustable than I had thought (from the pictures), so you can get pretty darn close the screen if that's what you need to do.
I've been using it for 6 months now, and although a bit speedy, it's been worth it! I now enjoy spending longer times in from of the screen, it is SO much better than the previous home-made setup I had cobbled together.
If you or your loved one has special needs, please do contact AltWork, they're on your side!
Also, the extra weight of a full modern iMac is no problem for the stand, works like a champ.

This chair is a lifesaver for me, I work 12 hrs a day in front on my computer screens, as I am on the software industry. Having knee and tendon surgeries, countless hours of chiropractor, I know what it is seating on a regular chair and fighting to stay on a ergonomic posture at all times. Altwork gave me the means to do just that, my legs stays up improving blood flow and circulation, my back stay straight, me eyes at equal distance to the monitors, helping reduce eye strain as well. It is funny that all our business is going to the cloud nowadays, and I feel I work laying in the clouds, enhancing my productivity and my well being. If you work long hours in front a computer, this is a god sent solution, and a conversation starter on any meeting, as I use live cameras and people always ask about it, with how cool it looks and how comfortable I look online. Thank you Altwork for this amazing engineering and innovation.
Everyone that I worked with, from the Corporation to the installers, were extremely attentive to my particular needs, professional, and efficient.
The work station itself has made all the difference in making my work day less painful. I would highly recommend it for anyone who suffers from any type of paralysis or muscular/skeletal issues.
I have had my Altwork Station for about six months now. It has functioned flawlessly, and I have been able to be very productive with my work. The back, hip, and sciatica pain I was experiencing working in a seated position have almost entirely resolved. Thank you, Altwork!

Traditional desks and chairs treat you like an old typewriter. Everything in the modern workspace has evolved except for how you interface with your computer. Desks and chairs are essentially what they’ve always been, you conform to them, instead of them working with you.
We’ve designed a better way.
The Altwork Station features integrated pushbutton controls that deliver seamless, smooth interaction between your body and your computer. Studies show that changing positions throughout the day is better for us.
Sit, stand, collaborate, or focus/recline—your choice.
Whether sitting, standing, or collaborating with your team by swinging the screen so everyone can see, presentations are a breeze. It’s more than a desk, a chair, or a cubicle. It’s unlike any other workstation.
Flexible. Mobile. Cool.
The Altwork Station supports your body and your work by seamlessly conforming your keyboard, desk, mouse, and monitor to your body. This allows you to create a massive selection of working positions with your computer so you can work the right way for the right task.
